Wedding & Live Event Painting

It all started when…

A dear friend asked if I knew any live event/wedding painters as she wanted to hire someone for her wedding. She was having trouble finding an artist that worked in watercolors for her portrait. I had never heard of this before but was quite interested. After much research I realized this fun and interactive service was one I wanted to offer to my patrons. While most event painters offer live paintings using oils or acrylics, I will bring the unique luminosity of my watercolor talent.

Using archival cradled clay panels, I can capture a special occasion in the fresh and luminous qualities that only watercolor can achieve. With layers of delicate neutrals or pops of vivid hues I can entertain guests while they watch your chosen moment emerge on the panel. Whether is be a wedding, engagement party, christening, retirement party, fundraiser, or coming of age ceremony, allow me to paint your special moment as it unfolds.

…happily ever after.

Frequently asked questions about live wedding painting.

What does the process look like?

  1. Before the big day.

    1. First, check out my gallery (as well as others) and to figure out what style, color palette, and general composition you are looking for.  If you think we are match then let's get in touch and see if I am available at the date and time of your event.

    2. After you decide you like my style, we will set up a consultation. We will discuss what sort of composition you want and what you want me to include in your painting. I will also ask you for a few copies of your favorite photos of you and your partner.  I take time to study your features and get to know your bone structure.

    3.   At this time I will collect at non refundable $500 deposit to hold your date, (this fee is part of the final total). We will set up a payment schedule with the the final payment due the day of your event.

    On the big day.

    1. I will set up at your venue 1-2 hours before your reception and begin to work on the background of your painting. I will make sure that I am in an unassuming area but still visible and accessible to you and your guests.

    2. I will paint through out your reception and interact with your guests as a unique form of entertainment.   You and your guest will get to watch as your portrait unfolds throughout the event.

    3. Your painting will be for the most part completed at the end of your reception.

    After the big day.

    1. I will take the painting back to my studio for any final detail touch ups and detail work.

    2. You will receive a photo of the work before I seal it for your final approval.   Once you give the okay, I will varnish the painting with an acrylic UV protective coating.

    3. Once the varnish has cured I will carefully package your painting  with love and mail it do you or if we are close enough, I will deliver the artwork directly to your hands.

What kind of paint medium/materials do you use?

Unlike most event painters who work in acrylic or oil paints, I use the finest watercolor paints on Ampersand panels. I paint on a clay substrate called Aquabord.   It is a clay coated panel that is cradled in birch wood and can be displayed with or without a frame.  Some artists consider works on aquabord to be a contemporary fresco. Unlike traditional watercolor paintings on paper that need to be framed behind glass, the Aquabord is sealed with an acrylic varnish that has UV protection to keep the pigments true for years to come.   As part of a special request, I can even use pigments made from semi precious stones such as lapis, jade, and amethyst.

Can you include other people in the portrait or my pet?

Yes of course! When we sit down to talk about the composition you want we can discuss who you want to be included.  I can paint a special guest who cannot be in attendance with some photographic references. Even if you want me to add your pet’s portrait, I can arrange that for you.

What if you are not available on my big day?

If I am already booked for the day of your event but you really want me to be the artist that captures your wedding, I can always paint a specific scene for your based on your professional photos from the day.

What kind of investment do I need to budget for?

If you look at my pricing chart you will see that packages start at $2,500. From there you can choose to add additional elements to fulfill your vision. Event paintings are a special keepsake and heirloom piece of artwork.   I utilize my years of experience as a portrait artist, my technical skill, plus my ability to capture the atmosphere and aesthetic of your special day.

If you have any additional request, just ask!  I will be happy to accommodate your unique vision of your special day.    I strive to provide you with treasured memories that you can cherish for a lifetime.
